ABOUT SAFE

The Gaza Society for Sustainable Agriculture and Friendly Environment (SAFE) is a Palestinian non-governmental, non-profit organization established in 2002 and officially registered with the Palestinian Ministry of Interior (Registration No. 7233). With over two decades of continuous engagement, SAFE has become a trusted leader in Gaza’s humanitarian and development landscape. SAFE implements a wide range of humanitarian and development projects in Gaza, with a particular focus on Shelter, Food Security & Livelihoods (FSL), and WASH.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

SAFE, in partnership with UNDP/PAPP, is implementing: “Inclusive Transitional Community Neighborhoods in the Gaza Strip / Gaza – Emergency Shelter Rehabilitation and Winterization Project.”

This early recovery initiative aims to rehabilitate at least 200 partially damaged housing units in the Gaza Strip. The intervention prioritizes female-headed households, persons with disabilities, and families with children, ensuring their safe and dignified return to habitable shelters. By restoring essential living conditions, the project seeks to reduce vulnerability, strengthen protection, and contribute to community resilience amidst the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

ROLE SUMMARY

SAFE is seeking qualified Social Worker (Researcher) to join its household assessment teams for the shelter rehabilitation project. Each assessment team will consist of one engineer and one social researcher conducting a single joint visit to each household, minimizing the burden on families while ensuring both technical and social dimensions are fully understood.

The Social Worker will focus on conducting vulnerability assessments, gender-aware community engagement, and socio-economic data collection and analysis, ensuring that household needs — especially those of women, children, elderly persons, and persons with disabilities — are captured and addressed in the project design.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct household-level vulnerability and socio-economic assessments jointly with technical engineers.
  • Confirm household composition and identify vulnerable members, including female-headed households, elderly persons, and persons with disabilities.
  • Collect, document, and analyze socio-economic data to support eligibility verification and prioritization of beneficiaries.
  • Support the grievance and feedback mechanism by documenting household concerns and ensuring they are addressed.
  • Ensure confidentiality and protection of beneficiary data in line with humanitarian standards.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Degree in Social Sciences, Social Work, or relevant humanitarian fields (mandatory).
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in social work, humanitarian assessments, or community mobilization.
  • Strong knowledge of vulnerability assessments, socio-economic profiling, and gender-sensitive programming.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage respectfully with diverse community members, especially women and vulnerable groups.
  • Proven experience in humanitarian or development programs in Gaza is an asset.
