Amidst the escalating humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, the Gaza Society for Sustainable Agriculture and Friendly Environment, in partnership with Salam Humanitarian Foundation, launched an emergency initiative titled “Support for Gaza’s Children” under a multi-sectoral emergency response and relief program. The initiative aims to distribute infant formula to the most vulnerable groups of displaced children in Gaza.
Targeting Vulnerable Infants in Displacement Camps
The intervention specifically targeted infants from birth to 18 months old, living in two displacement camps in central Gaza City. This urgent response addresses the deteriorating food security situation in Gaza, especially following the near-total closure of border crossings and restrictions on humanitarian aid access, which have led to a dramatic surge in child hunger and malnutrition.
Dire Living Conditions and Soaring Prices of Baby Formula
Displaced families in Gaza are enduring extreme living conditions due to the near-collapse of purchasing power and the skyrocketing prices of infant formula and basic food items. As a result, many families are unable to meet their babies’ daily nutritional needs.
Additionally, widespread maternal malnutrition has severely impacted breastfeeding, leaving families increasingly dependent on infant formula as the only available feeding option, despite critical shortages and unaffordable costs.
Ongoing Commitment to Protecting Children’s Basic Needs
This joint initiative reflects the continued commitment of humanitarian partners to uphold their mission despite the challenges, working tirelessly to protect vulnerable children and ensure their access to essential supplies during one of the most complex humanitarian emergencies worldwide.
